Today’s Scripture
6 The Lord asked Cain, “Why are you angry? Why do you look so unhappy? 7 If you do things well, I will accept you, but if you do not do them well, sin is ready to attack you. Sin wants you, but you must rule over it.”
— Genesis 4:6–7 (NCV)

Today’s Encouragement
The story of Cain and Abel shows that God warned Cain before his anger became violence. Genesis 4:6–7 is a reminder that resentment, jealousy, and sin should be confronted early. God’s correction can be an act of mercy, giving us an opportunity to change course before destructive attitudes become destructive actions.
Inspirational Word
The story of Cain and Abel contains tragedy, but before the tragedy came a warning. God confronted Cain before Cain murdered his brother. Cain was angry. His countenance had fallen. Something dangerous was developing inside him. And God addressed it.
That matters. Sometimes God’s warnings are themselves expressions of mercy. Conviction gives us an opportunity to change course before resentment becomes bitterness, temptation becomes action, or anger becomes destruction. Cain still had a choice. So do we.
If jealousy, resentment, pride, anger, or envy has begun growing inside you, do not nurture it simply because nobody else can see it. Bring it before God. Ask Him to expose it. Ask Him to help you master what is attempting to master you. The strongest spiritual battles are often won long before anyone else knows there was a battle.
Pause & Reflect
Is there resentment, jealousy, anger, or another attitude I need to confront before it grows stronger?
Today’s Prayer
Lord, help me recognize sin before it takes root. Give me humility to receive Your correction and strength to choose what honors You. Amen.
