A clean installation starts with a simple signal map. Write down where the picture comes from, where the sound comes from, which computer will run OBS, where the stream will go, and who will monitor it. This prevents the team from troubleshooting five unknowns at the same time.

Video path

Choose the camera, video switcher, or capture device. Confirm that the computer can see it before building scenes.

Audio path

Use a deliberate feed from the mixer. A dedicated stream mix is ideal when the room mix depends heavily on sound already present in the sanctuary.

  1. Install OBS from the official website. Select the correct installer for the church computer and complete the standard installation.
  2. Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard. Let OBS create a sensible starting point based on the computer and intended streaming use. Treat the result as a starting point, not the final Sunday configuration.
  3. Create one scene collection for the church. Give it a clear name such as "Sunday Livestream" so volunteers do not accidentally open an experiment or training setup.
  4. Add video first. Add the camera or capture device as a Video Capture Device source. Confirm framing, resolution, and frame rate before adding decorative layers.
  5. Add the mixer feed. Select the proper audio device, disable duplicate inputs, and watch the meters while someone speaks and music plays.
  6. Connect the streaming platform. Use OBS Settings under Stream to select the service or enter the stream connection information provided by the platform. Protect stream keys like passwords.
  7. Build only the scenes the team needs. Start with a small scene list and consistent names. Complexity should be earned after the basic workflow is dependable.
  8. Record a complete test service. Listen with headphones, watch lip sync, inspect graphics, and review the file on a different device before attempting the first public stream.
